On September 3rd 2022, Charlie was delighted to once again take to the rostrum at Hampton Court Palace to conduct The London Auction, the second-ever live sale in the UK by internationally acclaimed auction house and official partner of the Concours of Elegance, Gooding & Company.

The auction, conducted on the historic grounds of Hampton Court Palace, resulted in sales of rare vintage cars exceeding £22 million, with seven of the 39 lots achieving over £1 million, including a 1932 Bugatti Type 55 Cabriolet sold for over £2.9 million, a 1956 Porsche 550 Spyder (found in a family barn) sold for over £2 million, and a 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia TZ sold for over £1.1 million – the highest price ever achieved for a Giulia, setting a new world record.

The highlight of the auction was by far the sale of the weekend’s star car, a 1960 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta Competizione with well-documented race history, which sold for a staggering £7,762,500.

Gooding & Company President and Founder, David Gooding, had this to say about the auction:

“[…] our second-ever live auction abroad was a great success. The UK team, led by Charlie Ross and Joe Twyman, did an incredible job, and we achieved quite a number of remarkable sales. We look forward to our return to the UK for our London Auction in 2023.”
